 Unix Tip #4289- December 8, 2012

BACKING UP PASSWORDS

Don't just think if you backup
/etc/passwd you'll be ok.

You should backup all the following
to be safe:

/etc/passwd
/etc/group
/etc/gshadow (not on all flavors)
/etc/shadow

If you really want to be safe
about backing up all your system
configurations make sure to get
everything under /etc
It typically is under 5 megabytes.
NOTE: All tips provided are USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Tips are submitted
by various unix admins around the globe. UGU suggest you read and
test each tip in a non-volitile environment before placing into
production.
